Wow. I just suck. I haven't been here in ages. Eons, efen.
I must say, though, I have been busy. Uninspired, yes. But definitely busy. We have a trip to the West Coast coming up on Thursday, I've been planning my country's 500th anniversary and desperately trying to figure out where the hell the month of July got to. August 14th? Really?
Speaking of the West Coast, I might actually get together with some of the DadCentric crew. We're gonna have an East-West summit and try and work out some of the bad blood. You know, the typical stuff that comes up in these gang wars/rivalries things: co-sleeping, Baby Einstein videos, Higglytown Heroes vs. The Backyardigans. I know, I know, it's risky for me to submit to talking things out on their turf, but ya gotta do whatcha gotta do. It's just like Def Jam sitting down with Death Row - I'll be Russell Simmons to Whit's Suge Knight and Jason's Dre - who, as we all know, was the brains behind the success. Hopefully, it will be a nice night - I'd hate to have to pull a Michael and go on the lam.
For my Boston homies and Sox fans: How funny is that ad on NESN with Big Papi and Mayor Mumbles Menino? I don't know what strikes me as funny more: the fact that I have no idea what the ad is about or that Papi is easier to understand than the Mayor of Boston.
I just learned that Phil Rizzuto passed away. Being a Boston fan and resident, we didn't have much exposure to Rizzuto, but in the early cable years when we had WOR (Channel 9), I would see Phil doing Money Store commercials ("Holy cow, it's the Money Store!"). Some of you might also know that it's Rizzuto who provides the play-by-play in Meat Loaf's Paradise by the Dashboard Lights: "Here he comes, squeeze play/It's gonna be close/Here's the throw, here's the play at the plate/Holy cow, I think he's gonna make it". I went to school with his nephew way back in my freshman year of college. He was known by his nickname which was....wait for it...Scooter. I know, pretty freakin' original that one, huh?
And, because I haven't brought the cute in a while:
Yes, they're annoyed I haven't blogged in a while too.

6 opined:
1. Yes, they are freaking cute. Damn.
2. I was incredibly bummed out when I heard that Phil Rizzuto died. I don't know why. Maybe you're right, maybe it's the Money Store ads.
3. *bowing head in shame* I have not yet seen the NESN ad. Sorry.
Hey, we're all in the same gang, brother. No worries.
I'll take us through BlogFather's territory and we can tag that shit.
I wouldn't believe my parents when they told me as a child that Phil Rizzuto had been a Yankee. To me, he was only that really annoying guy from the Money Store.
RIP Phil.
(1) East Coast represent, my friend. Show our West Coast homies how it's done. Have a great time. I'm jealous.
(2) Interesting Phil Rizzuto story. Scooter was a phenomenal player who never got the recognition he deserved. Maybe that had to do with playing with Mantle and DiMaggio. After Scooter had been passed over by the Hall of Fame, Ted Williams apparently made an impassioned closed door speech saying that if Rizzuto had played for the Red Sox, they would have won at least 3 World Series at the time. Interesting because Williams was considered sort of a curmodgeon but he went beyond the call of duty to support Rizzuto (who he wasn't even friends with!)
(3) The kids are ridiculously cute. More pictures please!
I heard on the radio that Yogi has been visiting Phil at the assisted living place he's been living 3 times a week -- they played bingo together and then watched old movies!
How cute
RIP Phil
I just figured you were really, really, really busy working on that meme.
In my memory, the ads for Phil Rizzuto/The Money Store and Tom Carvel/Fudgie the Whale go hand-in-hand as fuzzy icons of a time gone by. I don't think I even found out that Rizzuto was a baseball player until I was maybe 10 -- I always figured he was just the dude with all the money.
Cute pic, btw.
